THERE has been a trend among language teaching journals in recent years to bring out themed issues, which deal with one particular area testing, for example, or classroom management in depth. A glance at the contents page of this issue of Teaching English in China will reveal no such single theme. In fact, you are more likely to be struck by the articles’ diversity. They come from all over China from Xinjiang in the north to Yunnan in the south, from the capital Beijing as well as remote provincial townships. They range over a wide field, taking in classroom research and methodology, issues in EAP, teacher training, educational technology, and the development of ELT materials and coursebooks.
