As early as the 1920sand the 1930s,thelate Guiseppe Tucci,anoted ltalian Tibetolo-gist.turned his eyes toancient tombs in westernTibet. He found tombs coveredwith stone slabs in Leh City inLadakh According to hiss recol-lection,"tombs,built withunpolished stones....eachmeasure 1.8 meters long,1.4meters wide and 1.8 metersdeep. Handmadepotteries....were sometimesadorned with deep red pat-terns."
