摘要

ON December 4, 1997, the city of Lijiang in northwest Yunnan Provincebecame one of the two Chinese historical and cultural cities registered on UNESCO's World Heritage List.The World Heritage Committee described the city as having "retained an historic townscape of high quality and authenticity. Its architecture is noteworthy for the blending of elements from several cultures that have come together over many centuries."
