摘要

Shanxi has been well-known as a treasure house of the ancient Chinese architecture as it ranks first in terms of ancient buildings surviving in China.Consequently it is second to none in China in terms of well-kept temple murals,courtesy of these religious structures housing them.Among these well preserved murals,one can find wall paintings dating all the way from the Tang,Five Dynasties and Ten States to the Song,Liao,Jin,to the Yuan,Ming,Qing.Along with the construction of more temples,the subject matter of wall paintings diversified,their contents responding to changes of societies.
