摘要

Twenty-five years ago, when it was emerged that the initial indication of environmental pollution and geological deterioration resulting from coal mining,the young Xie Kechang focused his life-long research on the field of coal and chemical industries. And for the last 25 years, Xie Kechang has not only made significant achievements in clean coal utilization and its technology transfer, in particular as an advisor for the provincial party committee and the provincial government in their laying out of energy, chemical and other heavy industrial plans, but also, in his capacity as the president of Taiyuan University of Technology and professor for doctoral students, produced a large number of high caliber research personnel in this field. On Dec. 2, 2003, in his defense for the eledion of members of Chinese Academy of Engineering (CAE), he responded emotionally:“As one of the scientific and technical workers, all that I have done, in good conscience, is to lay a good foundation for the sustainable development for our posterity.”
