Several years ago, the typical Chinese consumer purchased his vegetables and groceries at openair markets. Supermarkets were out of his league; they were uncompetitive and overpriced. This has changed. In recent years, shopping in China has become easier and cheaper as the number of supermarkets and retail stores in major cities has rapidly mushroomed.
