摘要

The entry on the 8th day of the 11th month of Kenryaku 2(1212)in Azuma Kagami provides a brief description of eawase(painting contest). This kind of refined event originally held at the Heian court-as we can read in historical documents-was,however, organized by the samurai class too. This paper discusses an eawase held by shogun Minamoto no Sanetomo, its course and theme of contest’s entries. Moreover,it is also an attempt to answer the questions about interrelations between eawase and soshiawase, and as to the meaning of such events in young shogun Sanetomo’s life.
