摘要

The Linguist Labov develops a model to analyze the narrative,that is,the famous Labov Model.Under this model,Thomas Hardy's The Mayor of Casterbridge is reexamined from abstract,orientation,complicating event (s),resolution,and coda.By this method,Hardy's intention to reveal the tragic life of man will be deeply explored.
