摘要:
Since National Institutes for Health in the USA published its roadmap in 2003,‘Translational Research',so-called ‘From Bench to Bedside',has become a new trend in biomedicine research area in the world,by which the basic research and clinical research are tightly integrated. In this issue, six research papers fall into this new trend,in which they initiate biological studies from the observations of complex diseases and the results from their studies have potential clinical output.
In the special issue ‘Regulatory and Effector T Cells' of JMCB,Dr Zheng's group reviewed the research progress of induced T regulatory (iTreg)cells, particularly iTreg stability and function in the established autoimmune diseases (Lan et al.,2012).In the first research article of this issue,Dr Zhang's group initiate their studies based on the observation that the deficiency in iTreg cell differentiation plays an important role in many autoimmune diseases. The authors showed that impairment of iTreg differentiation by up-regulation of TNF-αresulted in the development of autoimmune inflammation in experimental autoimmune encephalomyelitis.Dr Zhang's paper reflects a critical feature of ‘Translational Research',that is to identify scientific questions from clinical phenomena or observations.
