摘要

COVER STORY LAND LAID WASTE BY TOXIC RELEASES Soil contamination is a nationwide problem, but no one knows its extent. The Ministry of Environmental Protection in 2006 said 10 percent of Chinas arable land had been contaminated by polluted. Altogether, the ministry said 6.7 million hectares had been contaminated, more land than in any other country.
