The objective of this paper is to discuss Oscar Wilde's aesthetic views. The paper concentrates on the analysis of The Picture of Dorian Gray, the only novel written by Oscar Wilde, and elaborates his aesthetic views as well as the great influence of his aesthetic views. The first part of the paper talks about the background of this novel: the aesthetic movement in the 19th century and Wilde's experience, then proceeds to discuss his aesthetic views. The main part discusses the different characters in the novel and how they reveal the aesthetic views of Wilde. The last part talks about the significances of his views. This paper is written in the hope that it can help readers develop an interest and appreciation for aestheticism and help them to get a further and better understanding of the novel.
