摘要

Friends is a classical situation comedy in America in which humorous dialogues abound. With the theoretical framework of Cooperative Principle, this thesis extracts typical dialogues in American situation comedy Friends as data and discusses the characters’ violation of maxims of Cooperative Principle together with the derived humorous effect.
