摘要

"Rita Hayworth and the Shawshank Redemption"is a famous short story by Stephen King. In this story, Stephen King skillfully puts the irony into practice, and gives a description of the prison life with an ironic attitude. The use of irony is much helpful for the characterization, the theme and the structure of the story. The thesis is an analysis the use of irony including verbal irony, dramatic irony and situational irony. Through the detailed analysis and discussion, the thesis concludes that the story is full of irony.
