Ladies and Gentlemen, Dear Friends,The International Conference on Engi- neering Science and Technology is held in Beijing in this beautiful season. It is a great gathering of the engineering sci- ence and technology communities of China and the world. I appreciate the opportunity to meet engineering ex- perts from all over the globe and listen to your insights about the development of engineering and the future of human- kind. First of all, on behalf of the Chinese government and people as well as in my own name, I would like to extend hearty congratulations on the opening of this conference and the CAETS meet- ing, and a most sincere welcome to all the participants!
