摘要

As a kind of important structural materials,metals have been playing a significant role in human culture.Anthropologists refer to humans as "the toolmakers",and this is indeed a very realistic description of a key aspect of human beings responsible for the selection,processing,and utilization of structural metallic materials.The successful utilization of structural metal materials requires that they satisfy a set of mechanical properties,including strength,ductility,fracture toughness,fatigue,etc.Generally,some of the mechanical properties are mutually exclusive,such as strength vs.ductility or strength vs.fracture toughness.
