摘要

This novel is created by the famous novelist in nineteenth century—William M Thackeray, it also becomes his most wonderful work. The author describes the environmental background and kinds of people in upper class; in particular, Thackeray pays much word on an outstanding girl who is clever, pretty, diligent, and ambitious. I divide my thesis into several main parts, including her childhood, school life, marriage and social intercourse to elaborate Rebecca’s dual personality—extremely selfish self-awareness and complete feminist consciousness beyond herself.
