Gauge invariance implies that if the Gauss constraint in Yang-Mills(YM)or QCD is satisfied at an initial time, then it will be satisfied at all future times. However in numerical simulations of real time evolution, the small errors inevitably lead to a small deviation from the Gauss constraint, which exponentially grows, ruining the validity of the simulation. The result is that simulations must either be very short or else must restore the Gauss constraint at each step, which is very time-consuming.In either case, only the simplest simulations of real time evolution are possible.
