Background: Many authors have overlooked the intracranial distribution of the accessory meningeal artery (AMA). Blindness after AMA onyx embolization led us to the conclusion that the intracranial branches of the AMA should be emphasized. Methods: Previous literatures regarding the anatomy of the AMA were reviewed,with emphasis on its intracranial branches. Expected Outcomes: On the basis of the previous description,approximately 10% of the blood flow in the AMA reaches the intracranial territory and 90% is carried to the extracranial structures. Although the intracranial part of the AMA is small,it distributes to the semilunar ganglion nerve and anastomoses with the ophthalmic artery. Its function and importance should not be overlooked and should play an important role in cerebrovascular intervention.
