In the early 1980s,six ordinary men from Gulang County,Gansu Province placed their thumbprints on a contract for a piece of desert land, vowing that they would turn it into an oasis.Over 38 years, these six men and their descendants planted 14,500 hectares of forest and 40 million trees, forming a solid buffer of green surrounding the area’s railways, highways, farms, and poverty alleviation settlement. The group that has now been working on the Babusha Forest Farm for three generations has been honored as a model of the times and received a strong positive response from society.
