摘要

Individualism, as a kind of ideology, has become one of the dominant values of American society and culture. This paper focuses on analysis of concrete instances and embodiment of individualism in real life through exploring the representative image of Rachel, and discusses specific social and cultural factors which may have contributed to derivation of the value. Therefore,hopefully we can have a profound understanding of the value of individualism and its characteristics, and readers may make better sense of such value orientation from the vision of social and cultural origins.
