My Darling Is a Foreigner is a film about the romantic story of Tony,an American who fascinates learning foreign languages,and Saori,a Japanese girl with a dream of becoming a cartoonist.Tony is strongly exposed in the dominant culture group whose cultural values especially the collectivism is significantly different from individualism valued by his traditional ethnic group,so inevitably he experiences the changes of cultural identities.This paper attempts to employ identity management theory combined with other aspects like bicultural identity and emotional vulnerability to analyze the development of Tony’s cultural identities.The results of this analysis can probably be utilized as a reference for solving the problems of intercultural romantic relationships in real life.
