This paper gives a contrastive study on the Chinese and English versions of"The Commercial Press and I"from the per?spective of hypotaxis and parataxis. For the Chinese text, most clauses follow chronological order and linear construction. Overt co?hesive devices are not necessary in the Chinese text. The semantic logic lies in the context. Of all cohesive devices applied in the English text, the most favored ones are conjunctions, prepositions, and relatives. When connectives are absent in the Chinese text, cohesive devices are intentionally employed in the translation to make the text coherent.
