According to Skopostheorie raised by Hans Vermeer, translation purpose is the key factor for translation, and target re?ceiver is the most essential factor for translation purposes. Therefore, translators should follow three rules of Skopostheorie, i. e. skopos rule, coherence rule and fidelity rule. Under the guidance of Skopostheorie, this study took the subtitle translation text of Forrest Gump, analyzed the subtitle translation from the view of the director and his intention, and expectations of target audience, and analyzed the subtitle translation and translation strategies from the perspective of three rules of Skopostheorie . This study found that the Skopostheorie applies to the subtitle translation, and it can improve the quality of subtitle translation, better meet the needs of target audience and promote the spread of Forrest Gump in China.
