摘要

This paper aims to explore euphemisms in disastrous news discourse from the perspective of Politeness Principle. It finds that euphemisms in disastrous news usually observe the tact, approbation, agreement and sympathy maxims to show politeness. However, they violate generosity and modesty maxims to retain the speaker's reputation. What's more, euphemisms serve the functions of taboo-avoidance and harmonizing.
