We are pleased to present a Special Column on"Drug-and Chemical-induced Liver Injury".The scope of articles in this issue is diverse, covering a wide range of unanswered questions in this research area faced by both clinicians and basic researchers.Liver injury remains a major obstacle in the development of new drugs and is a concern for otherwise incredibly efficacious drugs.Even for well-established hepatotoxic drugs, there continue to be landmark discoveries of new mechanisms.Likewise,a range of persistent environmental and industrial chemicals are associated with hepatic injury and the potential for environmental exposure to exacerbate chronic liver diseases should not be underestimated.Given these critical challenges, diverse articles in this special issue highlight novel findings at this nexus of multiple fields, including hepatology, toxicology, drug discovery, and human medicine.
