Malnutrition is prevalent in cancer patients as a result of decreased appetite, dysphagia, and problems with digestion and absorption caused by tumour progression and/or cancer treatment. Malnutrition in cancer patients is associated with longer hospital stays, a poorer quality of life and increased mortality and morbidity [1,2]. It is widely known that malnutrition is a consequence of colorectal cancer (CRC), and malnutrition in turn boosts the disease's progression. However, the mechanism(s) underlying this vicious cycle remain unclear.
