摘要

高中英语课本第二册第二单元第六课中有这么一个句子：Just under a third of the population now smokes，about 17 million people．而在第七课的课后练习中(Ex2)中却有这么一个句子：At present about 38％of the Chinese population smoke and millions of smokers die from smoking each year．我认为前者从语法角度来说是欠妥的，而后者则是完全正确的。
