摘要

On March 30, 1867, Secretary of State William H. Seward agreed to purchase Alaska for $7,200,000 dollars from Russia and became the butt of popular jokes over his purchase. When asked what was the most significant act of his career, he declared "The purchase of Alaska! But it will take a generation to find that out."
