Baoshan is a frontier city in western Yunnan Province on the Myanmar border. It was formerly one of the Southwestern Silk Road trade routes. Nestled among mountains,Baoshan is green as far as the eye can see. It is a compact modern city, with six-lane urban roads, billboards bearing big corporate names, flowers and lawns. Thanks to rich tourism resources and the creativity of the local people tremendous changes have occurred in the city in recent years. I recently visited Xiong Qinghua, mayor of the city and National People's Congress deputy.
