For a number of years my wife and I have worked with foreign students who come to Canada to learn English or to go to university. We recognize that they are stepping into a new experience that can be very different from what they're used to and must cope with a new culture, new language and probably some degree of homesickness. However,I had not appreciated the depth of that upheaval on their lives until a young Chinese lady came to stay with us recently. Her story begins elsewhere in this edition of English Salon.
