摘要

<正> The August issue of China Today contained an article on food and cooking ('Ambrosia of Ancients'). It included a picture of a pottery figurine of a cook (220-280) whose left hand appears to have six, possibly seven, fingers. Do statuettes from that era commonly have a super abundance of digits or, was it in this case simply artistic license?Earlier this year, I spent a month in Hunan. For those with an interest in ancient Chinese history, I highly recommend the excellent Hunan Provincial Museum in Changsha.
