教材分析:In this period, the teaching emphasis will be put on developing students’ reading and speaking ability. More importantly, students are encouraged to think critically during the whole process. We will deal with the passage: Chemical or organic farming in using language on Page 14. The purpose of this reading passage Chemical or organic farming is to introduce students to the advantages of organic farming. Also, the structure of the whole passage, especially paragraph two and four, should be analyzed to cultivate students’ ability to get the logic of a passage. When finishing the reading part, the teacher will ask students to retell the passage following the mind map on the blackboard. Since many farmers are still using chemical fertilizer and many customers are still willing to buy non-organic products, the reasons lying behind such phenomenon must be explored. So students are encouraged to think critically about both chemical and organic farming. The speaking part starts with the role play practice. Students are given different roles (scientist, farmer, customer) to play and are supposed to share their opinions after group discussion. At the end of the class, students will be asked to write an essay with their own topic given in the role play section. For students whose English is poor, ask them to write down the summary of the passage.
