摘要

Puritanism is the soul of American culture. Starting from a study of Puritanism, the paper tentatively explores the functions of Puritanism in conceiving American culture as a whole, and American values especially, and then concludes that the values characterized by individual freedom and self-reliance, material wealth and hard work, sense of democracy, respect for education and pioneering spirit are mostly credited to Puritanism.
