This paper analysed The Sound and the Fury with the theory of intertextuality, with the aim of going back tointersubjectivity, as promoted by Mikhail Bakhtin. Drawing insight from Susan Sontag’s opinion on“interpretation”, the author highlights the importance of openness and indeterminacy, as well as the significance ofthe “form”. The author argues that Faulkner found his own voice in the dialogue with previous writers and invitedreaders to interact with the texts as well.
