I am an associate professor of international political economy and global studies at China Foreign Affairs University and the Italian International Institute Lorenzo de’Medici. At present,I am living in Rome, where the situation is deteriorating every day.I have recently read the special report“China Faces Up To COVID-19”in the March issue of China Today.I have to say,the articles are a good way for foreigners outside China to know more about the efforts that have been made by the Chinese government, medical staff, and ordinary people in the fight against the coronavirus. This is a war against an invisible enemy. For weeks, doctors and experts have been warning not to downplay the threat of the virus, not to trivialize its potential impact, and to learn from the extraordinarily effective Chinese experience.Another lesson China has offered to Italy during these very difficult days is the need for solidarity. The Chinese communities in Italian cities, including Milan,Naples, and Prato for example, have all organized donation campaigns to support Italy.Chinese-Italian associations in Italy are joining hands to work together in many sectors too.As the flights loaded with Chinese doctors and medical supplies landed in Italy, many of us were very grateful for this assistance.During this global crisis,China and Italy have lived true to their commitment to each other as two countries with one of the longest, most enduring bilateral friendships in the world, just as an Italian saying goes:A friend loves at all times, and a brother is born for a time of adversity.
