1945年8月17日,在日本裕仁天皇宣布无条件投降后的第三天,赛珍珠给克拉克女士写了一封信,全文如下: "In this hour of victory it is a great joy to write to you.Our fighting men have won the war;it is now for us to make secure the fruits of peace for all the peoples of the world.I want to tell you that I pledge to spend myself in whatever degree is nec-essary to press forward our work of understanding.I want very much to hear from you of your continued interest and partnership in our work;please let me know that East and West can count on you during the coming year."(译文:在这胜利的时刻,我怀着巨大的喜悦给您写信,我们的战士已经赢得了这场战争;现在是我们要为全世界人民来确保这和平果实的时候了.我想告诉您,我保证将尽自己的全力全方位地推进我们的(译者注:东西方)理解工作.我非常想听到您对我们这项工作持续的兴趣和合作;请告诉我在即将到来的一年里东西方协会的工作还能指望上您的参与.)
