摘要

Grammar is the system of a language. In this paper, the author will discuss the development of grammar and focus on functionalist views on the structure of English, represented by M. A. K Halliday, covering the fundamental concepts of functional grammar, especially the three metafunctions:textual, interpersonal and ideational function.
