Objective
Petrified wood,as an important component of plant fossils, plays a significant role in understanding the floral composition and terrestrial palaeoclimates of the geological past.Though abundant petrified woods have been found from the Mesozoic deposits in the Great Xing'an Range,NE China,it was rare for systematic investigations to be carried out for these fossil wood remains.During the past few years, some petrified wood has been reported from the Middle Jurassic of the central part of the Great Xing'an Range,e.g.,the Wanbao Formation of the Longjiang Basin(Zhang et al.,2018)and the Xinmin Formation of the Tuquan Basin(Fu et al.,2018),whereas no fossil wood had yet been described in the southern Great Xing'an Range.Herein, two species of fossil wood are documented for the first time from the Middle Jurassic Xinmin Formation in Ar Horqin Banner, southern Great Xing'an Range. The new discovery provides additional evidence for understanding the floral composition of the Xinmin Formation, contributing to further revealing the palaeoclimatic conditions of the Great Xing'an Range during the Middle Jurassic.
