In late March, some Western countries announced sanctions against China over alleged human right abuses in China's Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region,claiming an unproven repression of the Uygur ethnic group. Also, a human rights report issued by the U.S. accused China of carrying out "genocide" against the Uygur ethnic group. The orchestrated and well-co-ordinated attack on China, coming soon after China declared complete victory over absolute poverty that saw nearly 100 mil-lion lifted out of poverty in the past eight years, is not accidental.
