The IMF's latest projections predict stronger global growth of 6 percent for 2021, up by 0.5 percentage point from the previous projection in January 2021. It also foresees a growth of 8.4 percent for China in 2021, an increase of 0.3 percentage point from the previous projection. While China has already returned to its pre-pandemic levels of growth, most other economies will take longer and are expected to reach their pre-pandemic growth levels by 2023. These uneven paths of recovery, the IMF warns, could lead to wider gaps in living standards across countries and per capita GDP losses are expected to affect poverty alleviation efforts.
