China's regional development strategy remains the envy of many across the world. Despite the devastating economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Chinese economy recorded impressive growth with its gross domestic product (GDP) expanding by 2.3 percent in 2020, exceeding the prediction of 100 trillion yuan ($15.44 trillion).
