This paper discusses how to implement communicativelistening or the integration of listening and speaking in thelistening class.It suggests that the current three-stage practice inthe listening class should be modified by aligning the objective,the input and the task for effective listening/speakingintegration.It points out that"communicative listening"should meet the learners"communicative needs"anddemonstrates the relevance of input authenticity,cooperativelistening,and the discourse perspective/genre approach for thispurpose.Practical suggestions are made with reference to theGraded Tests for English Majors Band 4 and Band 8.
