摘要

The use of mother tongue in English classrooms in China has always been a controversial issue, and English teachers sometimes feel guilt-ridden when they do “slip” back to Chinese. By reviewing the literature concerning the use of mother tongue, the author believes that use of Chinese can be warranted. The key question is when, how and to what extent Chinese should be used.
