摘要

The great rock of theis cape was inhabited by the Giant Adamastor,the spirit of the Cape of Storms(Good Hope),described by Camoens in the Lusiad as a hideous phantom.On whoever ventured near his abode Adamastor unleashed violent tempests.Then one day in 1488,Portuguese navigator Bartholomew Diaz came with his fleet.He completed his daring voyage reaching the southern limits of Africa and actually entering the Indian Ocean.
