Standing beneath the shade of a io-meter high eucalyptus tree, Ristor Vuokko, an amiable and enthusiastic Finn, surveys a wide forest plantation deep in the Guangxi countryside that in five years will become his company's first paper harvest in China. “At present we have just over 10,000 hectares of plantation,” he says, pointing to the uniform lines of trees that stretch for kilometers toward the horizon.“We hope eventually to be able to expand this to 100,000 hectares or more.”
