If one just looked at headline consumer price inflation (CPI)numbers, one could see plenty of reasons to be optimistic that China's battle to tame inflation has been won.Inflation has decreased aggressively in the past few months, dropping from a February high of 8.7%,down to 7.7% in May,and 7.1% in June.Coming in at an average of 7.9% for the whole first half. But while this relative easing of inflation is good news,it is not the whole story.Inflation indicators remain high and easy money is far from gone. The breathing space afforded by recent CPI numbers, though, gives the government the opportunity to lift some price caps and hopefully get inflation under control without long-term economic effects.
