Since the 1990s, a new round of lunar exploration missions have aroused profound interest of such big aerospace nations as U.S., Japan, Europe, China and India in broad-based active participation. In this world-wide upsurge, almost all the lunar missions accomplished in the past have focused on selenodesy. For one thing the research on lunar topography, gravity and inner structure can recover the lunar evolution history and for another this research prepares for future lunar surface landing and lunar surface base. The Chinese lunar exploration roadmap, orbiting, landing and sampling return, parallels the lunar exploration history of mankind. CE-1 has fulfilled the ancient Chinese dream of flying to the Moon, but at the same time, she also focuses on the selenodesy, to prepare the basic Moon knowledge for the future lunar exploration.
