摘要

As a genius Irish poet and dramatist,Oscar Wilde is one of the most disputable playwrights in the history of English lit erature.Among all his comedies,The Importance of Being Earnest fully shows Wilde’s artistic style and comic capability.In the play,Wilde made use of all the comic factors to combine the abnormal plots,funny characters and witty language as a whole,sati rizing the severe ethics and social ills at the late Victorian age.Based on Bakhtin’s carnival theory,this thesis trys to illustrate the carnival factors embodied in the importance of being earnest.
