Even though Coptic Studies enjoys the luxury of having no less than three modem dictionaries providing etymologies,there are still some words for which no convincing etymology has yet been found.This is the case with the verb TλMIO,‘to create’,which exists in all of the Coptic dialects and is by no means infrequent.Most readers will recall that it figures in a prominent position in Genesis 1∶ 1.
