Refined locations of major explosions in Tianjin Harbor

摘要

The Binhai New District of Tianjin was shocked by two explosions in the Ruihai International Logistics warehouse in the Tianjin Harbor, one of the busiest harbors of China.Two explosions with energy of 3 and 21 tonnes of TNT,equivalent to earthquake magnitude 2.3 and 2.9, were reported to occur within a half minute [1].Both explosions can be clearly identified from the seismic waveforms recorded by the regional Tianjin Seismic Network.Here we calculate the exact time interval between the two explosions using waveform cross-correlation method, and a variation of the time interval with azimuth of stations is detected.Based on a simple model, we obtain the refined relative location of the two major explosions, which are separated by ～ half a hundred meters.
